Saab BioPower technology is based on the development of eco-friendly renewable energy source, bioethanol. Produced from a wide variety of biomass sources, including forest residue, sugar cane and sugar beet, bioethanol is a renewable and sustainable source. When mixed with low volumes of petrol, it creates an eco-friendly yet potent fuel known as E85.
The beauty of Saab BioPower is that it can run on both E85 or petrol in any proportions, without any adjustment needed by the driver. And because E85 has a much higher octane rating (104 RON) than petrol, this allows the timing of the engine’s ignition to be advanced, producing more power and a sportier edge.
BioPower isn’t just better for the environment, it’s also creating more jobs for rural communities. A new refinery is opening in Norfolk, dedicated to producing Biofuel in anticipation of its expected popularity. Government legislation is expected to increase this further, with movements to offer free parking and congestion charge exemption for drivers of flex-fuel vehicles.
